Date: June 17, 2008

Location: Private high mountain lakesprivate fishing Call 303-325-5515 for availability and bookings.

Number of Anglers: 3

Guide: Tad Howard

Weather: Beautiful Colorado day; warm with a slight breeze later in the day.

Lake Condition: Water temps between 40-44. Clear water, great visibility, some good sight fishing!

The lakes are fishing very well, and it is a great time of year to beat the runoff and spend a day in a spectacular setting.  Everyone caught lots of fish, including rainbow trout, brook trout, brown trout, cutthroat trout, and cutbow trout.  It is a rare opportunity to catch 5 different species in the same day, but we did it, and some were even quite large.

The fish were cruising the drop-offs and ledges and were very actively feeding.  A few came to the surface and ate dry flies, including one very big brook trout, but most of the action was below the surface.

The lake fishing should be very good all summer.  There is still lots of snow in the high country, and this should keep water tables high and the water cold all summer.

Give lake fishing a try and you might see another whole side of fly fishing in Colorado.

Also river levels are still high but clearing fast.  They should start dropping very soon and we have had great stream fishing straight
through runoff.

Brook trout caught on the high mountain lakes.

Big bow caught by Rowdy.

Great looking trout in a beautiful setting.

Great double to start out the day.

Amazing color on this rainbow trout, caught with a dry fly.
