Weather: Cool in the morning. Sunny light winds.  Some mixed clouds in the afternoon.  Temps warming to the 60’s.

River Condition: Water temps between 39-55. Tarryall Creek – Nice flow with good visibility

Report:
The fishing has been very good almost everywhere.

This was Fran and Mary’s first try at fly fishing for trout.  They successfully landed 4 species of fish and got their feet wet with some beautiful Colorado trout.  Fran started out the morning hooking up a big strong bow that towed us up and down the river.  That set the tone for the day.  We had consistent action all day with nice rainbows, brown trout, and the occasional northern pike.

The fish were active in the cooler water and put up very respectable fights when hooked.  The trout ate a variety of flies, but nymphs were by far the most effective since it was a bright sunny day.

After Mary and Fran caught a few good fish and Mary caught one exceptional rainbow trout, we decided to probe the waters for the big
northern pike I had tangled with on 2 previous occasions.  After spotting the bruiser we had a large bunny streamer ready for him with a 60 pound leader to prevent breakoffs.  Fran’s first cast caught the attention of the big fish and after a very visual savage take and some knuckle busting runs on a 5wt, the big fish came in to be photographed.  What a way to end the day!

With very good water flows anglers should enjoy good fly fishing all fall.  We are starting to see the brook trout and brown trout getting
very colorful before the spawn.

The aspen trees are just showing signs of fall and should be starting to change into their fall brilliance in the next couple or weeks.
