Trout Fishing
Chris Galvin
Chris Galvin:
Chris moved to Colorado in 1992 from Ohio.  A natural coach
and instructor, he became a guide after repeatedly taking
friends and family fishing. Many were first-time or novice fly
fisherman, and he found it was as much fun helping them
catch fish as it was catching fish himself!  When asked to
describe his approach to the sport and guiding, Chris said, “I’m
patient, very technical, and love to help clients improve their
skills.  The fun naturally follows.”  He finds himself challenging
old ideas, creating new fly patterns and improving upon or
even developing new techniques.  “I think success comes from
putting together many different details and not being afraid to
try or learn new things. You can never know too much or be
too good in this sport.”

Chris is also a competitive fly fisherman, competing in the past
two National Fly Fishing Championships held in Colorado.
“That’s a different animal altogether.  The international rules
don’t allow for the use of attached indicators or weight.  I now
find myself European Czech nymphing, even when fishing for
fun!”  In addition to trout fishing, you will often find Chris in
search of “Rocky Mountain Golden Bones” a.k.a. carp.  This
fall, he will be one of the professionals competing in the 2008
South Platte Carp Slam, put on by Denver Trout Unlimited.

On Fly Rods:  "I prefer light and fast-action rods.  With so
many great rods out right now, it’s hard to go wrong.  But if
pressed, I prefer Scott and Sage."

On Reels:  "Mostly Nautilus.  Solid and well thought out,
beautiful too.”

On Clothing:  "Under Armor as a base layer.  After that, I use
clothing to keep myself protected from bugs, hooks, and the
SUN.  I even wear sun gloves!”

Vest: "Fishpond Wasatch.  It is truly the MacGyver of fishing

On Flies:  "95% of the time, I fish my own creations.  They are
classified so I can’t go into them here.  Spend a day with me to
get a peek! ”

Favorite Water:
The South Platte drainage, especially some of the private
ranches on the North Fork, they are simply amazing!

I wanted to drop you a note saying what a GREAT time I had
and how terrific Chris was. We had an unbelievable time and it
was more that I could have hoped for. We weren't on the water
10 minutes and I had my first 18" Colorado Rainbow! And that
was after Chris shook off 3 or 4 hits as he showed me his
nymphing style, which was good since nymphing is not my
strong point. He was a good instructor and we had a lot of fun
together. I really appreciated his instruction on nymphing and
know my eastern fishing will be better because of it. He is a
credit to your organization.

If I ever get back there I am sure we will be talking again. I have
already given your name to a couple friends. If I don't get back
there, I wish you all well and know that you will be successful in
providing all your clients a wonderful western fishing

“I wanted to thank you again for the outstanding day of fishing!
Your extensive knowledge of the sport, combined with your
complete professionalism and your easy going personality
made the day very enjoyable for me. I will definitely
recommend your services for future outings as often as I can.
Good luck and continued success!”

"Just a quick note to tell you that my wife and I enjoyed our trip
with Chris! I will tell you that he was one of the best fly fishing
guides I've had in my ten+ years of fly-fishing in Colorado and
other Western states. His instructional and technical approach
was much appreciated as my goals are always to pick up new
tricks and techniques and understand both the 'what' and the
'why.' I thought he did an excellent job of that."

"My son and I had a guided fly fishing trip with Chris Galvin. It
was terrific!! It was our first time fly fishing. Chris showed that
he was extremely knowledgeable about fly fishing, gave us
great customer service and was a pleasure to be with. We will
recommend him and your service to our friends and co-
workers.  Thanks for a great day of fly fishing."
