Winter Fly FishingToday was a guide fish day on the public waters of the South Platte near Deckers.  The weather was comfortable and the fish were pretty cooperative.  We fished from about 10:30-2:30 and caught many beautiful trout, and hooked a few more big guys that didn’t stay hooked. Overall it was a great day to be out!

We have been guiding these public waters all winter, and the fishing has been consistently good, with lots of fish every trip and multiple
opportunities to hook fish in the 16-20 inch range.  We have been primarily nymph fishing, but as you can see from the tiny midge
pictured above, there are a handful of midges hatching now. This can offer us a limited chance for a few fish on dry flies mid day
(depending on the weather).

Fishing should only improve as the days start getting longer and more waters start to ice off and become fishable.

If you feel like getting out for a little late winter fishing, now is a great time to do it.  Watch the weather and give us a ring–one of our
guides would be happy to show you around the South Platte.

Also check out our Fly Tying Instruction from the comfort of your own home.  We come to you anywhere in the Denver area. Our
instructors help you learn the basics of fly tying.  This is a great way to stay excited and interested in fly fishing on a winter day.  Next
season you can chase trout with flies you made yourself!
